Thank you for posting. I'm planning a trip on a cruise and one of the stops are to Belize City. I prefer not going on a cruise, but this trip is with my family. I desperately want to visit, see, swim, or dive the BLUE HOLE. And I would like any suggestions you may have.

I'm not sure if our cruise offers visiting the Blue Hole because it's far from Belize City and another 2 hour boat ride out. I also read that flying on a helicopter is much more worth it to take photos of the Blue Hole because when you go diving there isn't much to see? Please let me know thanks so much!!

I ready your blog and loved it. I am planning a trip to Belize for 2 weeks in Nov. I am a female and traveling solo, which I think should be okay. I am curious about places to stay there. I am going mostly to relax and do whatever comes up. Any suggestions on hotels/hostels, anything that is safe, really. I looked at a hotel, which was a little more expensive than I thought, but I may just stick with it. If you could email (if you are able and have time) and let me know any suggestions of what to do, where to go/stay, etc...I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Hey Kim, thank you for your comment! :) Belize is a great place to be any time of the year but i am sure you will enjoy xmas tremendously! The weather around that time is not as scorching hot as in the summer.
I have NEVER needed an AC in a room in Caye Caulker, a fan did just fine for me. AND i was there in the summer (june, july, august, september)! So in December i would say try with the fan first and if you are not comfortable with it, upgrade to AC! :)

My trip to the Blue Hole was done with Frenchie's diveshop but i didn't dive, i snorkeled. The cost for the trip depends on whether you are going to dive or only snorkel. In my case it was 230BZE and a fair price. The drive with the speedboat takes about 2hrs and the tour includes two more stops, Halfmoon Caye and Long Caye, admission/park fees and gear plus a lunch and drinks. We had a great time and the stops were beautiful, especially Halfmoon Caye.

Ideally reserve tours the day before. Drop-ins the same day may be possible but the Blue Hole Tour leaves at 6am!!! And it is a lil more fair to the tourproviders as they shop for your lunch and can only shop for however many ppl signed up!

Pack light is the only big advice i have, you will have to carry what you pack and Belize is so laid back you can dress comfy.I made the mistake of packing WAY too many shirts... 1shirt per day and maybe two backups in case you spill something should be way enough!
Depending on what other parts of Belize you plan to visit i would say a pair of long pants for the jungle to ward off bugs, tennis shoes or the likes for hiking in the jungle, for the island the most essential thing is your bikini, maybe a sarong, shorts, sunglasses, sunlotion (high SPF!!! best to bring with you because it is more expensive on the island), a thin longsleeve shirt in case an evening gets a lil cooler... a good book if you care to read. Take some bugspray in case there are mosquitoes... but i doubt it. And don't forget the camera to take plenty of gorgeous pictures.

If you let me know what your price range for a room is i can point you to "tried and liked" places i stayed at! :) I will also email you my reply here as i don't know if you check back and read this here!

Have fun in this beautiful paradise you're going to experience (and say Hi to my Raggamuffin friends for me if you meet them!)
Cheers!

Hi
I really enjoyed reading your blog. I am going to Belize during xmas and I had a couple questions.
1.Do you recommend staying at a hotel with A/C in Caye Caulker?
2.How much was your tour to the blue hole what how long did it take to go there.
3.Can you book tours the same day?
4.Any tips on what to pack for a 8 day vacation?

Thanks so much!
